Rygging (30 seconds earlier for the newest skippers) the start is only part of the help given to beginners on Fridays

The trolley on the right is often part of the marking of the start line, it saves time putting out and collecting in buoys.

You can see the effect of a rygged start. You begin with a 30 second start.

As you win more races it reduces by 10seconds to 20.

As you win yet more races it reduces again by 10 seconds.

Keep winning and it will reduce to scratch, 0 seconds. This can take a couple of weeks or a couple of years.

All these boats may have started correctly.

Well before the start you may wish to do everything by yourself

but if you find it a struggle....

patient help is on hand as soon as its asked for

and not only above deck

keeping you boat in good repair means knowing when to take your winch apart

and when not to..                                                    ...I knew that of course!

How to change the servo

and why not to carry a battery pack in your pocket

how to keep the effects of our salt water  lake to a minimum

and what you need in your lakeside and home toolkit

Whether you built you boat by hand like this one on the lake most Fridays

or bought it secondhand. (see links for places to search as well as boats for sale on this site)

Once the boats are on the water

and the race has started

there is still much to learn

about how best to reach the windward mark

the rules at a mark

coming in on a starboard tack

and behind him on a port tack

that windward boats keep clear

theres a training game in the new skippers section of this site

We can't always keep the weather sunny

but the members usually are!
